Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has said he would
bring the Eden Gardens on par with the best cricket stadiums in the
world, after officially taking over as president of the Cricket
Association of Bengal here on Thursday.
“Within
the next three months Eden Gardens will have the same facilities as
anywhere in the world,” said Ganguly, after becoming CAB’s youngest
president.
“I have been around the world for 20
years and seen almost every cricket venue. We are going to do everything
possible to make this ground the best place to play cricket, ahead of
the World T20 final next year,” he said.
Ganguly said
his experience as an international cricketer and captain of India would
help him get more order in the association. “We have got some issues
with the ground, we have to try and rectify it. We will try and bring
system into the association and make sure that the best possible
equipment is available,” he said.
Referring to
former president Dalmiya as a father figure not just an administrator, Ganguly said he would walk
his own way and use the knowledge he gained working under his
predecessor.
“He (Ganguly)said. “I am not filling
anyone’s shoes. I am just trying to walk on my own feet and do the best I
can,” he added.
